Fat Loss: Cardio Training

In my previous post I spoke about how strength training was more effective than cardio training. However, I stated that one should still have cardio training integrated with their strength training program in order to achieve optimal calorie and fat burn.Let us now consider several different types of cardio workouts. When designing a cardio workout program the individual’s fitness level must first be considered. There are many strategies of doing cardio like interval training, high intensity interval training, fartlek training and conventional style method.

In this post I want to discuss how to design the best cardio workout for you. The best cardio workout for a person is when the heart rate is elevated for at least thirty to forty five minutes at an intensity of sixty five percent to eighty percent of their maximum heart rate (MHR). In order, to calculate an “estimate” of your maximum heart rate simply subtract your age from 220 (i.e. 220-age= MHR). Once you calculated your MHR multiply times .065 to obtain 65% or your MHR.

For fat loss and cardiovascular improvement, do your cardio workout four to five times a week and each session should last for no lesser than thirty minutes and no more than one hour. Make sure when your doing your cardio, you are monitoring your heart rate!

You should not be out of breath during the cardio session. You need oxygen to burn of fat. Combine your cardio workout with weight training and you definitely can see the fat melt off!
